Protein calculator.
Protein preserves the muscle you have while you lose the weight you don't want. Here is a daily target matched to your body weight and goal.
Why protein matters most during weight loss.
When you lose weight, your body does not only burn fat; without enough protein and resistance activity, it will happily burn muscle too. Muscle is the tissue that keeps your metabolism higher, your joints supported, and the eventual result looking and feeling the way you intended.
This matters double on appetite-suppressing medication. When a GLP-1 protocol quiets your appetite, it becomes easy to undereat protein without noticing. A common pattern that works: anchor each meal on a protein source first, then fill in the rest.
How the target is set.
General guidance for healthy adults ranges from roughly 0.5 grams per pound of body weight for maintenance up to around 1 gram per pound for people actively losing weight or building muscle. This calculator gives you a range within that guidance, based on your goal.
Individual needs vary with kidney health, age, and training. Your provider or a registered dietitian can personalize the number, especially if you have kidney disease or other conditions that affect protein handling.
